Good content, bad presentation By Jenn Lee The information contained in these tomes is irreplaceable; it is highly useful for any dedicated study of Shakespeare. However, the text itself resembles a bad photocopy. The text is larger and clearer than in the first volume, but still difficult to read in areas. If you desperately need this text because you are a teacher or actor, who needs to look up specific words, you should get it; I do not recommend the purchase for anyone who wishes to simply read it casually.It is surprising to me that in 100-odd years, the publisher has not updated the typesetting or design of this book.I purchased this as a gift for my sister who is an actress; she will be keeping it as it will be able to serve her purpose but I wish I had been able to get her something of higher quality.

About the Author "Kevin Clarke (*1967) studied musicology and literary history in Berlin and Milan. He did his PhD at Free University Berlin about Emmerich Kálmán and the Transatlantic Operetta. In 2007, his books Glitter and be Gay: Die authentische Operette und ihre schwulen Verehrer [The Authentic Operetta and Its Gay Admirers] as well as Im Weißen Rössl – Auf den Spuren eines Welterfolgs [The White Horse Inn―On the Track of a Global Success.] In 2010, Kevin Clarke curated the exhibition about Erik Charell at Schwules Museum Berlin. Also there, he is one of the curators of the Porn Exhibition in 2014. Since 2006, he conducts the Operetta Research Center Amsterdam. Meanwhile, he is also devoted to gay history and LGBT subjects. During fall semester 2013/14 at University of Vienna, he taught a gender course about operetta (“… and a bit queer as well!”) It was in Vienna as well that he curated the exhibition World of the Operetta for the Theatermuseum, featuring the section “The Origin of the Operetta out of the Notion of Pornography.” In 2013, Bruno Gmünder published his book Beards―An Unshaved History which is now available in a softcover edition. "“Forget about glasses, watches, ties, shoes, or hats―the beard is the greatest male accessory of all time.” Thus spoke style expert Mike Yerxa, from MTV’s show 1 Girl 5 Gays, in his “Salute to the Furry-Faced Man” of 2013. Indeed, no matter where you look these days, it seems that you encounter stylish, sexy men with their accessory number one: beards, beards, beards. An unstoppable parade of “unshaven alpha-maleness.” And this in a time where gender boundaries are supposedly becoming more fluid, the classical division between “man” and woman” is breaking down, and where the sexes―including gay, trans, and intersexual people―are supposed to all be equal in the context of “gender mainstreaming.” This recently even led to gender researchers trying to have photos of stag rutting removed from the brochure of the Eifel National Park in Germany because they felt the images of the stags would encourage stereotypical gender roles. Feminists in action. (Sigh!)So why is it that, now, of all times, when stereotypical gender roles are disappearing, more and more men are suddenly sporting beards. Can that be a coincidence?Giles Constable writes in his introduction to a modern edition of the medieval text Apologia de Barbis: “Throughout all of history, every aspect of facial hair has had its own particular meaning, and the way a man shaved his beard was a sign of the way he saw himself and was seen by others.” What, then, do the new bearded men want to look like? Walking Santa Clauses handing out presents all year round? Reborn prehistoric men who roar and screw as if they’ve watched too many episodes of Game of Thrones? A parade of would-be lumberjacks and construction workers combining their beards or mustaches with checked shirts and workwear in order to look like “real men” (or reborn gay clones from the seventies)? Twinky hipsters ironically pairing their beards with cat sweaters and nerdy glasses? Anticapitalist revolutionaries or dropouts who imitate the Taliban beard as a protest against Wall Street and the United States of America? Or is it a kind of reliving of childhood fantasies, a hairy À la recherche du temps perdu?“Who could ever forget the ginger-faced Yukon Cornelius, the lovable prospector who was able to weather the North Pole, tame the Abominable Snowman, and save Rudolph and Christmas all at the same time? Whatta man, whatta man, whatta mighty good man!” says the Canadian Yerxa. The international Amsterdam fashion magazine Fantastic Man, on the other hand, wrote, in a special beard issue, of summer 2013: “Prominence, virility, and wisdom are just some of the powers a beard can lend to its wearer.” Regardless of whether he lives at the North Pole, or elsewhere, “beards are undeniably rugged and handsome.” At least that’s what the smooth-shaven Dutch editors of Fantastic Man think. And they must know what they’re talking about as fashion gurus, right? They used to publish gay cult magazine Butt, which was swarming with bearded retro guys in black and white on pink paper."

That made the work much more compelling.Gorgeous photography, interesting and well-written as well as informative.Oh my word. This was amazing. Holy smokes!! This was like an art history class. Wow. With this and the Bear Bards poetry book one could teach a college level course on what it means to be a ‘bear’ in the modern world. Wow. Did I say wow?I love books like this. I actually collect them and the visual effect just kept me drawn to each page. I loved reading all the information. I know some people might find it boring, but I don’t. It also helps that I love men with beards... so for me this is like a coffee table book: one I’d have on display all the time.For those who love looking, caressing, kissing a bear, this books is perfect. I gave it top rate because it's a well put together coffee table book and I know there are so many out there who'd love to entertain themselves browsing through the pages. As far as myself? I'd rather caress a smooth face. Some chest hair don't bother me and maybe a little facial as well but not the bushy, full grown beard. Overall, this is a good book and quite informative. Mr. Clarke selected a very good array of models most of whom I find quite attractive.

Fine Revolutionary War romance By Bomojaz Weir Mitchell's HUGH WYNNE is one of the best historical novels set during the Revolutionary War in American literature. Set mainly against a Quaker backdrop in Philadelphia, Mitchell creates an accurate picture of the social as well as the military history of the time. Hugh Wynne, the main character, is faced with a number of interesting conflicts with his father, the Revolutionary cause, his cousin Arthur Wynne, and his sweetheart Darthea. Hugh favors the Revolutionary cause, which brings him into opposition with his strict Quaker father, who is against war and is a Tory. Hugh breaks with the Quakers and his father, and lives with his non-Quaker and worldly aunt Gainor Wynne. It's at her home that Hugh meets Darthea and a number of other famous people fighting for (some against)Independence, including Washington, Benjamin Rush, Hamilton, John Adams, Col. Tarleton, and many others. His cousin Arthur, a greedy, cruel Tory sympathizer, becomes the chief villain of the story and Hugh's chief antagonist, especially after they both fall in love with Darthea. Hugh's adventures multiply after he joins the troops on the field, and his conflict with Arthur is resolved after Darthea agrees to be Hugh's wife (there's a lot more to it than that, but why spoil it?).Like Churchill's historical novels written around the same time, Mitchell's novel is filled with accurate (thanks to years of intense research) historical and social information. It's a fascinating portrayal of Revolutionary-era Philadelphia. And the main fictional characters are also well drawn, especially Aunt Gainor, whose forceful personality resonates throughout the story. Mitchell's narrative skills are much better developed than the aforementioned Churchill's, particularly when it comes to creating believable dialogue. Mitchell also criticizes in an interesting way the strict religious discipline practiced by Hugh's father (he ends up going insane, a most pitiable character), and makes it a point to indicate that Hugh and Darthea's children will not be raised that way. (FREE QUAKER is an important feature of the title.) Lovers of historical fiction will enjoy this book immensely.

By kara Julian goes to Valeria hoping to study the dying sand of this planet but gets more then he expects when he gets there. There are so many rules you must follow on this planet and one of those rules is no sex what so ever which Julian finds it hard to follow this rule once he meets Saidin. The sisters who rule this world are cruel. One thing is clear to Julian is things must change because it is not fair for the Aliens that live on Valeria to be treated like they have been.I have to say I really liked the authors pretense of this story and the way she wrote these characters. You do get some angst and action with this book along with steam between Julian and Saidin. I will admit some of this book dragged a little bit for me and I found it hard to stay focused but after awhile this book really grabbed me and I ended up really liking this book!I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.

Burns I received an ARC of this book from the Publisher, via Netgalley, this does not affect my opinion of this book or the content of my review.I picked this one up because it sounded interesting, and I already had some success with Less Than Three Press.This is the saddest loneliest book I've read all year. It is also well written, lyrical, and deeply introspective. We spend a great deal of time in Julien's head, and while I can't say I precisely enjoyed it as there was too much misery in the events, but I found myself deeply empathizing with this character. Saidin was much more of a cipher, as we are never in his head and only learn of him from Julien's perceptions, but he provided an appropriate foil.As for the plot itself? Wowzers, I was totally not expecting that. A complete surprise. At times the themes and morals were presnted a bit heavily handed. But overall it was an interesting and lovely melancholy love story. And the ending was quite positive and the culmination of dramatic character growth.I liked it much better than the first chapter lead me to believe I would. The story is getting 3.5 stars from me and a solid recommendation to anyone (but particularly fans of m/m) who likes a good sad love story where redemption is found in the end.On a related note, if the two Less Than Three Press books I've read are any indicate of quality, this is a publisher I will continue to watch. While I can enjoy stories that may not be so well edited, it is much easier if they are.

You would think she would walk right up to the front door of the mysterious door and knock. Unfortunately, Molly is not that kind of witch and Faye is not your average person. When Faye literally drops in on Molly and her staff, she has to earn their trust while being deceitful herself. Faye is looking for one very important thing and she knows Molly has the means to get it for her. Along the way, the local, and very bad for your health, mob boss discovers what Faye and Molly are hiding. And he'll do anything to get it.The story starts out slow and takes time to build. But one thing the reader knows straight out of the gate...Faye is hiding something big and she will do absolutely anything to find the answers she seeks. As the story picks up momentum, the relationship between Faye, Molly, and Molly's staff undergo a change. Molly trusts Faye more and more and the distrust among the staff grows. The story if filled with danger, intrigue, and learning powerful lessons about how you perceive other people and how they perceive you.

He has a way ofgoing into the supernatural world that sucks you right in! He keeps you guessing, but also gives you enough answersto keep you intrigued till the very end. I joined Faye on the rooftop as she was getting ready for that fateful flight that would take her to the house she hadbeen seeing in her dreams and in her every waking moment. I was there with her as she sorted out her feelings andjoined her as she stood up for all she believes in. I felt Molly's desire to help those in her care, to find sanctuary for the troubled ones. She only wants to be left aloneto do her work, and to possibly find someone to spend eternity with. And for a witch, eternity is a very long time. WhenFaye literally drops into her life, bells ring, and memories return. Faye and Molly make a formidable duo, and I can't wait to read the continuation of their adventures!

How glad I am that I did as this one is even funnier. " Jesus loves me, this I know".....now, you have to read the book to figure out what the heck I'm talking about. The ending however, already done by Hitchcock but still funny. I wish there was a list of the truly humorous books by women in the mystery genre. Like, if you liked this book, you'll love Maddy Hunter, or "Salvaged to Death", or early Stephanie Plum, or the "Maggody" series. You get the picture

In fact, the author wasn't really sure either. However, since James Carlton is not the real name of the person this book is about I guess that is why this book must be classified as fiction.In 2011 the author's brother died at the age of 68, leaving behind a laptop with his memoirs on it. A private investigator was hired to discover if the memoirs were real and his response was that the memoirs were true as far as Jimmy remembered them. He states that the details may not be 100% accurate, but they are accurate as far as Jimmy remembered them.This is the story about James (Jimmy) Carlton. The story begins when he is 18 in the 1950s in England and details his struggles with his sexuality. It also contains graphic descriptions of his introduction to the act of sexual intercourse and more.In today's society Jimmy would be labelled a bisexual, but that word did not even exist in the 1950s.He wrote with great detail (a bit too much detail in my opinion) about his sexual experiences which is why I say that this book is not suitable for children. In fact, it is probably too graphic for many adults. * Note* These sex scenes are sometimes homosexual encounters and sometimes heterosexual encounters, but they all take place between consenting adults.However, this book is not just about sex. It is an interesting look at the changing views of society over time and it is a frank look into the life of an actor during a very turbulent era.- I'm not sure if I should add a spoiler alert heading to this review because nothing I write gives away any more of the story than what is written on the back cover of the book. But if you are a purest and do not want any information given away I suggest first that you do not read the book description on the back cover, and second that you do not read any further into this review.James moved to California in the 1960s and began a successful (and very lucrative) career as an actor. After a few trysts with men his sexual preference changed to solely women and he had more than his fair share of sexual exploits. James had finally come into his own, or so he thought. He avoided the stereotype of the actor who finds himself hooked on drugs and/or alcohol. In fact, Jimmy was in exceptional shape, ate a healthy diet and was the very definition of "physically fit".But Jimmy's life was not predictable. He could have remained in California and lived comfortably for the rest of his life. In fact, he had enough money that he could easily have settled into comfortable retirement in his Venice Beach home. Instead he decided he wanted to travel throughout the United States. One October day while driving in Arizona, Jimmy experienced chest pains and shortness of breath.Those chest pains set off a chain of events that should have resulted in his death. (Read the book, you'll see that the heart attack was minor compared to what happened in the next few minutes).This near-death experience changed his life. "So there I was, early forties, a millionaire a few times over, starting on a new life with not a care in the world if you discount the knowledge that never quite left me that a man whose had one heart attack that no-one can explain can have another."Jimmy ends up a lay brother in a California monastery. Who could have predicted the path his life would take? Certainly not Jimmy.I found this book absolutely fascinating. The fact that it is labelled as fiction does not matter. Is it fact or fiction? El día a día de sus obligaciones como policía, aderezadas con un vaivén de recuerdos y situaciones que van desde la simple anécdota a la más singular aventura, nos sirven de marco para mostrarnos una sociedad que, lejos de lo que pudiera parecer, no se diferencia en mucho de la actual. Posiblemente nos encontremos ante uno de los títulos más interesantes de la, por otra parte, escueta bibliografía de José S. Álvarez (más conocido por su pseudónimo, Fray Mocho). De clasificación un tanto complicada (no deja de ser una novelización con tintes de diario, y que roza débilmente el género policiaco sin adentrarse realmente en sus vericuetos laberintos), se define como una historia más de índole social que criminológico, ya que se centra mucho en los aspectos del momento en el que se desarrolla la obra, obviando otros que quizás le podrían haber dado ciertos tintes de misterio o suspense. José S. Álvarez tiene en el presente libro un estilo directo y cercano para el gran público, lo que lo hace muy accesible; puede que abuse demasiado de la jerga específica en determinados pasajes, aunque también define muy bien los entornos en los que lo hace y siempre se cuida de no dejar flecos a la interpretación. Sin duda eso ayuda a una mayor comprensión. Creo que es un libro que va a sorprender, y va a permitir que la gente se acerque y conozca un tipo de lectura más específico del que, probablemente, suela estar acostumbrada. Abrir nuevos horizontes nunca es malo, y si se hace de la mano de una buena trama, mucho mejor.

I bought all the books which were available and had her autograph them. I read them by year of copyright. This was the first. I love Kate's writing. Excellent plot construction and character development. This particular one I had problems staying with. It had too many minor subplots going on. I still love a good mystery.

A beautiful story of finding yourself and discovering there is more out there.Then there is the uncertainty of being accepted by the world once they find out your 'secret'. The fear and anxiety.While this book isn't something I would typically read, I can honestly say it was riveting. This book is well written and the characters are thoroughly developed. Their interactions are believable, I know some books I've read do not have this.

I also like that Hide helps him in this new world. This is how Jake should've been knowing he was experiencing every thing for the first time. As a top he gets the chance to see the flip side with Billy and he likes being a bottom as well.

About the Author Tara Meddaugh is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s MFA program in Dramatic Writing. Her work has been performed throughout the world and is enjoyed by tens of thousands of readers each month. Students and teachers world-wide have utilized her plays for Directing, Acting and Dramatic Literature courses and workshops in schools and colleges. Her monologues have been performed by actors around the globe and many have been published in various works, from acting websites and to a compilation of female monologues to an Oxford Press Language Arts textbook in South Africa. Serial monologues she wrote were performed for two years by the internationally recognized receptionist-robot, Valerie. Additionally, she toured in a Children’s Theatre Troupe, which she wrote for, co-directed, and performed in. She has taught Playwriting at the university level, at public theaters, in schools, and in programs to underserved youth. She is a two-time recipient of the Shubert Fellowship in Dramatic Writing, the Sloan Screenwriting Fellowship, the New Works for Young Women [Actors] Award and is a member of the Dramatist’s Guild. Tara has written children’s books, short stories, a novel, and writes and records music in the chick-core rap band, Girl Crusade. She lives in Westchester County with her husband and two dramatic children.

By Gabe Packed with monologues perfect for young actors, this charming one act captures the joy and wonder of childhood and imagination. I can see youth theatre groups and schools having a blast with this material. Great ensemble piece for a theatre company and touring shows too. Absolutely charmed by this one!

It's a great piece of work with a unique and surprising sense of humor, sprinkled with a few elements of the absurd that make it very entertaining and memorable. Blitzen, super power machines, etc. :)This would be great to see performed -- and for those of you working with young actors, it's a great way to have multiple participants have equal lead roles with interesting lines to deliver. The entire play is all monologue-driven, making it a great source of audition-worthy content as well.T. Meddaugh has a unique voice that stands out in modern-day theater.

It is suberbly written and researched. A must for anyone coming out, and a definite must for any minsiter workign with the gay community. God bless the author.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Very important book By Sunny Maudlin I got this book for my birthday one year after finding it on the shelf at a bookstore. Being a part of the minority group of gay Christians, I was intrigued. The "target audience" for the book is for homosexuals and their loved ones, but it really could be read by anyone, and I think it should be. McNeill offers theology on living in fear, guilt, shame, anger, and living with pathological faith and the importance of maturing spiritually. I think any Christian can relate to any (if not all) of these topics, and not just struggling gay Christians. It's the kind of book that you may want to read with a pencil or pen in your hand so you can underline parts that are important to you. (That's what I did.) This is a caring, humble, and comforting book, and one that I highly recommend and cherish.

It's been a while since I read the first one so it took me a bit to figure out who was who and where things were at. This is a short one and brings the college students forward a few years to graduation and what comes next. I enjoyed getting caught up with Rob and his frustration that all his friends are going different directions and then Cole and Ellis as they hunt for jobs and get ready for marriage. Ellis and Cole are hot and horny guys and I chuckled over the remembered Cole snarkishness and Ellis strength and support that reminded me a lot of their early relationship. Seeing them hunting up jobs and a future home while still very much in love was great. Looking forward to seeing what is up with the enigmatic Russell.Engaging and not to be missed for Jock series fans.

Jarman The first of four chapters is about two people who we never see again. We are introduced to a protagonist and his friend and a situation where they are being separated, and then they vanish out of the story and the other three chapters are about two completely new people. Well executed writing failed to make up for me spending the majority of the book wondering when I'd see the people I thought the book was about. Bad form.

This Jock is getting Married (Jock 1.5)’ by Wade Kelly takes place three years after it all began for Cole and Ellis, and caught me up with what they have been doing along with their friends and families.Ellis is his usual optimistic self, determined not to let anything bring him down. He realizes Cole still struggles with the idea of being together and will often say or do things he doesn't mean, simply because he can't imagine why Ellis loves him and pessimistically is afraid it won't last; that it will fade and blow away one day. Ellis is adamant about loving Cole and will say it as many times as Cole needs to hear it. Almost unbelievably, their sexual interludes are continuing to grow in quality and intensity. There are some sizzling moments between them that are reassuring and helps ease Cole's growing concerns about wanting everything to be perfect for the wedding. He's still looking for something to go wrong, even panicking about the weather, but Ellis just keeps reassuring him, countering each concern with an alternative.Their biggest concern as of late is the fact that neither have a job in their chosen fields, Ellis as a teacher and Cole a physicist. Cole's anxiety grows, making him wonder if all the plans they are making will ever be realized, but Ellis keeps asking Cole to trust him and, although it goes against Cole's nature not to worry, he loves Ellis so much he tries his best to at least act as if he believes him.I've always been a fan of this series and these delightful vignettes only increase my affection for the characters. The stories give me a good idea of how the guys are doing and gives me hints about where their lives are leading. It's great to see their parents and realize how supportive they are of Cole and Ellis. It also emphasizes how very much Ellis loves Cole and how far he's willing to go to make him happy. Underneath all of his negativity and worry, Cole does believe and trust Ellis. He is still amazed by the fact that Ellis loves him, but he also knows he loves Ellis just as much, even if he can't always show it. This is obviously not a stand-alone book but it's a great bridge to the next 'Jock' story - ‘No! Jocks Don’t Date Guys’ - and I can't wait to read it.
