It's all about Allah , not our wants or desires brought a whole new reflections on some of my own experiences. Outstanding as usual.

The dead man is Walter Farkos, a man she arrested prior to resigning from the Minneapolis PD. Now Farkos' murderer is obsessed with a sadistic game of cat and mouse. The ultimate goal - destroy Miller piece by piece. If Miller doesn't stop this maniac she may not only forfeit her own life, but the lives of those she loves.

By Lori Caswell/Dollycas This is a sequel to David Fingerman's Silent Kill.Louise Miller has left the police force and is trying to get her life on track as she struggles to overcome the terror she has survived. She is unemployed and becoming addicted to gambling. How could her life get any worse? Coming home and finding dead man sitting on her sofa is definitely worse. The man being someone she arrested before resigning from the police department makes it twice as bad.On top of all that the killer is obsessed with destroying Louise piece by painful piece. Threatening not only her life but the lives of the people she loves. She has no choice but the hunt this madman down on her own.Dollycas's ThoughtsI read this book the same way I read Silent Kill, all in one sitting, with just a couple of small breaks to gather by wits. This author has a way of writing that amazes me. The story unfolds before your eyes like you are watching it on the big screen. There are places that will make you shiver and others that will make you shake, some that may even bring a smile to your face, but I guarantee you will not be able to put it down.Louise Miller will be someone you care about as she has flaws like every one of us. She lies to her partner and to her brother to try and keep them safe. The relationship between Louise and Grant gets very interesting as they both have their eyes opened. And Peanut, the dog even his mother wouldn't love, works his way into your heart. In Silent Kill I was drawn in by the graphic and gory nature of the writing about the serial killer. In this story I was more drawn in by the growth and relationships among all of the characters and the mystery of tracking down the killer. As is the case with books in a series each one tends to be better than the last. In this case both books are excellent but in different ways. In the sequel the characters are growing naturally and we become more entrenched in their lives, along with a masterfully crafted mystery. It makes me wonder where Mr. Fingerman may be taking us in the future. I know he is at work on book three and I can't wait to see what Louise get herself into next.

By Mike Kalmbach, Author This is the third novel I've read by David Fingerman, and I really enjoyed this sequel to Silent Kill. He has a real talent for plot twists that keep you guessing all the way to the end. Great suspense, at times feeling like a thriller, and characters you really care about.I especially enjoyed how Louise has developed a gambling habit in this sequel. This addictive behavior causes some interesting friction between her and the other characters, and I liked seeing how it played out.Overall, I'd recommend this to fans of murder mysteries. Loved seeing how this one played out!

PLAYING THE HAND SHE'S DEALT written by David Fingerman as reviewed by Nancy Silveria By nsilveria PLAYING THE HAND SHE'S DEALT is the 259-page turning sequel to David Fingerman's Silent Kill, the first Louise Miller crime novel in which readers learned the consequences of a sadistic man's mind.Fingerman fans are cheering. We already knew the versatility of his short-stories thriller Edging Past Reality and the grit of his urban novel Spyder. Like comfort food and holidays, the consistency of PLAYING THE HAND SHE'S DEALT is this author's welcome home hug.Once again, Fingerman delights readers with his uncanny characterizations. I could swear that I have known Louise Miller for years. As the sequel opens in the aftermath of Silent Kill's traumatic showcasing of a serial killer, we find the newly disenchanted ex-cop self destructing with a gambling addiction. Louise's flaws bond the humanity within us all. We watch her lie to those she loves in order to avoid having to admit her weakness.Who couldn't relate to recovering physically and emotionally from trauma, or facing the struggles and dented self esteem of being unemployed? And that's just the back-story to a criminal mind suddenly obsessed with making Louise Miller's life a living hell.David Fingerman didn't just write a good story. The author let the story tell itself. Page after page, the reader forgets they are holding a novel. It's like catching up with a good friend you haven't seen in a while. And just like the roller coaster of real life, PLAYING THE HAND SHE'S DEALT is filled with chaos and celebration.I cringed, shivered, smiled, and laughed my way through the book. I even held my breath a time or two. And just like visiting with a good friend, I was sorry when the visit came to end. Now, just like in real life, I occasionally find myself wondering what my old friend Louise Miller is doing with her life these days. And that's the very best feeling an author of a series can offer their readers, to leave them with the wonder. If you've read Silent Kill, go get PLAYING THE HAND SHE'S DEALT, ISBN9781603183352, pour yourself a cup of coffee and enjoy the visit. If you haven't read David Fingerman yet, go get PLAYING THE HAND SHE'S DEALT and make some new friends you won't soon forget.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Review by Lucy By Hearts On Fire Reviews Algernon wants his sister happy, especially after the man who she favored, Mr Harrier, didn’t offer for her after her first season and this has tarnished her some. (I kept thinking, thank heaven I didn’t live then!) but her request to attend a masquerade? Impossible. Of course, it isn’t and Algernon is nothing if not a loving brother so they go. While there he meets an interesting lady, one he keeps thinking about.Algernon had been about to marry a lovely girl, Caro, who died. Now he no longer look for love but something about this one tempts him. Of course, things are not what they seem and when he meets Lieutenant Richard Smith, currently on half-pay, he is more than a little confused.I liked Algie very much. He had someone in Anthony, an Oxford lover, who took a wife and Algie has nostalgia but no bitterness there. He works to make his sister happy. He is, in general, just a very good person. I was happy to see him get something more than something quick and nameless.Let’s put out there that I adored Algernon’s mother. “You need a private secretary.” Oh, mama. Especially given the time frame, this is a mother who wants her son happy. Loved her. This is a short tale (51 pages on my iPad) but it is very complete. There is a little disbelief, particularly in Parker escorting the lady around who was not related and no one really commenting on it. I’d love to know more about the their history, as well. But it was a lovely Regency story with characters I wanted to read about.
