Book Review by Christine By PrismBookAlliance 3.0 of 5 StarsFor original review, please visit the Prism Book Alliance® blog online.Upon reading the blurb, I expected Boundaries to be about a young man receiving training in domination from an experienced sub. In the first couple of chapters, it appeared that was exactly what I was getting. Ben is 21 and searching for someone who can help him develop his dominant side. He meets Jacob, an older, experienced switch, who agrees to teach Ben how to be a Dom. The story appeared to be heading in that direction, especially with their initial “training” scene. After that, however, things got a bit confusing, and the story took off in a multitude of directions and never really saw the development of a relationship between the two main characters. The first true training scene between Ben and Jacob is quite well done, though I had a bit of difficulty believing that an experienced switch would allow a Dom-in-training to wield the implements he does. That aside, this particular scene has a lovely tone and focuses on the conflict warring inside of Ben’s head: how he could take such pleasure in inflicting so much pain. Bingo! This is an excellent point of tension to develop, expand upon, and work through for the duration of the book. I loved this about Ben, loved his desire and rush for dominance and administering punishment contrasted against the horror of craving it so badly. I wanted to see him grow from this, to develop his dominant side, and to understand and embrace his needs and wants. Unfortunately, the story never quite gets there, and the internal struggle that seems so interesting and compelling is replaced by numerous external conflicts that end up distracting from and eventually replacing Ben’s growth as a character.Jacob’s character was a bit tough for me to like. He vacillates from kind and patient to being a downright ass, and it never truly feels as though he cares for Ben. There is little evidence within the story that either of them has an emotional connection to the other, and their HFN ending feels like a compromise rather than a commitment. The author introduces further external tension and conflict through seemingly unnecessary peripheral characters and arguments. Kyle is quite an interesting and sympathetic character, and I can only hope that his story is going to be told on its own in the future. Here, however, he is too much of a distraction and a further obstacle to the bonding between Ben and Jacob. Page time for the two MCs, particularly for the building of trust and communication between them and for Ben’s growth as a Dom, is sacrificed for extra characters who, I assume, are being positioned for further installments in this series.Overall, the writing in Boundaries is technically sound, and the portrayal of the BDSM scenes between Ben and Jacob, though too few, are well-crafted and engaging. I also enjoyed the artistic nature of each character, and the descriptive details of their various works are particularly interesting. Ben’s struggle with unleashing his sadistic side is probably the most captivating element of the story, and I only wish it had been more of a focus. Since this story is titled as #1 in a series, perhaps there will be further expansion upon these two characters; however, it would have been a more satisfying reading experience to see them grow as individuals and as a BDSM couple here.

I am trying to not give away any spoilers because I know everyone feels different about things in book that may be comfortable for one person and not for another. So this review may be very vague sorry I can not think of a way of explaining why I personally had a hard time with aspects of this book without giving away spoilers which is what I do not want to do.So I liked the teaching part of this book which was Jacob teaching Ben how to be a Dom and some of the BDSM aspect of this also. I was not a fan of Jacob at all and without saying exactly why because that would be a spoiler he was so selfish. He only took in account his own feelings and was not welling to have it any other way. Now Ben was a good Dom to me at least until the end when he forgoes what he may be comfortable with in a relationship with Jacob so that he could keep him. That came across as Ben being weak to me for not standing up for himself so I stopped seeing him as a Dom after that. To each their own and what you are comfortable with in a relationship is up to you but when you come across as having misgivings on how you are going to feel after he does what he more than likely will be doing than it is time to rethink this relationship. I did get that Jacob cared for Ben in his own way but I did not feel like he loved him at all. I also got the Ben loved Jacob but at the same time I thought maybe Ben needed to love himself a little more and not just give in to keep someone. See it is really hard for me to explain why I had a hard time believing a relationship working between these two at all without saying why which is a spoiler so I wont say. So other then that I did like this book until the end which to be honest sadly ruined this book for me. I did like the authors writing style and the pretense of this story up to a certain point. So I am sad to say this book was just not for me...I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.

By avid reader Boundaries (Imago #1) by Anna Hedley3.5 starsM/M, M/M/M BDSMTriggers: AbuseI was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads. This book was a hard one for me to get through. There was so much going on. You have three main characters, who on their own, I really liked, but when you mixed them together, they made this muddy, murky scenario. At first, I was inclined to really dislike Karl. He seemed abrupt and annoying. However, when you learned more about him, I was more easily won over by his attitude and demeanor. I even really enjoyed the fact that he became this go-between. I do hope that we get to learn more about him in upcoming stories. As for Jacob - I found him the most annoying character of them all. He lacked good communication skills, but claims to be a switch. Also, he was patient, with the exception for when he wasn't. I found his attitude towards Karl to be almost mean at times and for someone who is supposed to be looking after their sub, I felt he did a very poor job. Then you come to his teaching ability - non-extent. He just let Ben fumble through and then was upset when things did not go how he wanted. Finally, you have his control issues, which just pushed me over the edge in to really disliking him.Ben is learning to be a Dom and hoping to develop a relationship that does not make him feel so lost. You hear a lot about his previous relationship, Toby and even catch a glimpse of him in this story, but it's a mish-mash of scenarios and flashbacks - there is really no comprehensive story for Ben. He's learning to dominate, fulfill his desires and not be ashamed, but struggling to figure out what that type of relationship looks like, all while developing his business and taking verbal abuse from a co-worker...All in all, this is probably a book you can skip. While the BDSM is light, it was very realistic in that you have to learn and take time to develop your skills.
