It kept my interest enough to read in one day, though I don't typically enjoy romance novels. The narrative writing style reminded me of Louisa May Alcott's _A Long and Fateful Love Chase_, though this isn't nearly as suspenseful. It details the life of an ingenue through her teenage years, into a bad marriage, and all that befalls her love life later. I enjoyed the twist at the end. It would be worth buying so I could read it again sometime in the future (in paper) without having to mark my place in a web browser.

Which kind of dream has Luanne been having? The chemistry between the main character and her love interest was steamy. I particularly enjoyed seeing how it heated up over time. There is definitely something to be said for building the audience’s anticipation in advance. Ms. Brundage did a good job at both setting up the scene and making me yearn for these characters to get together. This tale included flashbacks that took up a disproportionate amount of space in the storyline. While it was riveting to have these glimpses into Luanne’s past, there were too many of them for something of this length. Cutting back on them would have made it easier for me to focus on what she was doing at the cottage. At times it was also hard for me to figure out what was going on because I couldn’t quite tell if the current scene was happening now or was set in the recent past.I’d never heard of Melusine before. The descriptions of who this individual was and where she came from were really interesting, especially once I realized that it was all based on a real legend. This was an intriguing way to frame an erotic story. It’s not something I’ve seen done very often, and I enjoyed seeing how all of the pieces fit together.Another Creature should be read by anyone who likes introducing ancient legends into modern settings.originally posted at long and short reviews

My biggest problem is the fact that I never really figured out what was going on. I'm not sure if everything in this story was metaphor, or if there was simply a decision to make the writing seem vague and dreamlike so that the paranormal encounter was wrapped in mystery, but either way the writing left me without a clear vision of what reality actually was, what happened and what only happened in imagination. It almost seemed to me that everything paranormal could've been a drug or alcohol induced hallucination. A lot of people like those sorts of stories where you aren't really sure if it happened or not. Others may find meaning in the type of writing that elevates the mundane to a level full of symbology. I personally like to know what goes on in the story, and I like to understand what I'm reading. Other people may not have the problems with this story that I did.

A couple of reasons I didn't give it more stars is that one it needed to be proofread. There were typos and some of the sentences could have been condensed to make a more effective sentence or point. The other reason being the point of view. The switch in the same paragraph between three people's pov left me confused. I then had to backtrack to try to decide who said what multiple times.

I usually like a little more tension in my books but, well, I guess you can say it was sweet. Kinda dull and predictable. Not something I would read again and I probably won't read the sequel but it was enjoyable enough for a quick read.

I love the main characters, Tess and Brooke. I love Tess's kids, the double D's. I love the supporting cast. I love the story. I love the romance. Hell, I even love the cover art. Tess Sinclair and Brooke Cample has always been attracted to each other, but when Tess's son ran into Brooke at the pizza parlor, a good friendship quickly developed. I loved the way that the author gave me "thought bubbles" as Tess and Brooke debated with themselves as they fought against their true feelings. Each woman had their reason for not wanting a relationship, but you can't fight love. Highly recommended.
