Book Reviews Description: Bryn is a 21 year old woman who lives in Penrith England. She is a very inquisitive person who doesn't go with the mainstream and instead questions the OED that controls all adult's lives. Her questions lead her into ancient texts, hidden passages in old British buildings and eventually to the horrible truth about the OED's activities. Using her control of light she must battle her way to safety. In Short: This quick to read novella has some really great, fresh ideas. The characters use old magic in unique ways. I would describe it as Earth Magic vs. Sci-Fi. Set in a futuristic, technologically advanced world the characters use ancient knowledge and power to conspire against the regime. This first novella in the series focuses on showing us this unique world and the cast of characters.Pros: This is a truly unique idea and blend of genres. The main character is written to be very relatable which makes it easy to become one with her story. The blossoming love story is exciting. The pacing of the novel is fast and fun. The technologies and magics are very unique and creative ideas. I really like the way the protagonist uses "light magic" and how she explains it works. The "talking through trees" magic is really interesting as well. The character development is good, especially for a novella. This book does kick off the series well, making me curious to see what will happen in the next stage of their journey. If you like the idea of a paranormal ya series set in a dystopian UK definitely check this one out.Cons: My only tiny little issue was where it had ended. I wish the characters would have arrived at their first stop, not gone in, but just arrived at the gate before it ended. I know in the next book they will arrive and their adventure will really kick off and I would definitely like to read that. Like many novellas this book only has Act 1 and 2. Exposition and a call to adventure with the major climax and resolution occurring in a later book in the series.Parent's Guide: This book is pretty clean. No violence, no sex. The language is mild.I was given a free copy of this book in return for my honest review.Full review at odbookreviews.blogspot.com

Original and Compelling Dystopian Read By Tina Williams In Discovery -The Iron Web, the heroine Bryn becomes involved with an underground organisation which is battling to resist and expose the mysterious and secretive One Earth Dynamic which governs society. I found it to be a compelling read, full of danger, mystery and suspense, which references otherworldly influences and earth magic. I also enjoyed the romance between the Bryn and Curran, a young man who is on the run.Bryn is working hard to uncover secrets contained in a some ancient texts which have been deposited in the library where she works. She is convinced that they hide a deadly and ancient evil. Due to her interest in the documents, she attracts the attention of Luxent, a body committed to exposing the horrific truth about the One Earth Dynamic.Luxent also want to learn about Bryn's ability to produce condensed light, an ability which Luxent wishes to harness for its own use in its battle against some of the darker manifestations of the OED. The author does an excellent job of revealing the terrible lengths the organisation will go to in order to maintain control and protect its secrets. I was on the edge of my seat as danger mounts and Bryn is put under pressure to put herself under the control of the OED by registering her ID.I also enjoyed the growing friendship and romance between Bryn and the mysterious fugitive Curran. We are also introduced to a number of other characters, including Bryn's best friend Lys and members of Luxent. Whilst this read very much focuses on Bryn's journey, my interest was very much piqued by Curran and I am looking forward to finding out more about their relationship in future instalments as Luxent's resistance against the OED develops. The book is set in Penrith in Wales and I enjoyed how the author created the alternative dystopian world in which her characters inhabit. It was believable and chilling in how it incorporated modern day and future technologies and I loved how it wove ancient earth magic into the plot. The read ends on a cliff hanger which serves to set up the forthcoming book in the series, Immortelle really well. I am now very curious to know more and am looking forward to how the story develops. Please note, a copy of this book was given to me by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

By kariny v *FREE COPY FROM AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW*Find more of my reviews @ http://karinysteenbooxfrenz.blogspot.com/-Bryn is fascinated by the N800 texts that ate available at the library where she works. She also has a special power, something her grandmother once taught her. She is able to channel her inner light and project it like a lazer and Daveithe wants to recruit her to join the Luxent, a community dedicated to finding out the truth behind the control of the society, the OED. With her birthday nearing, Bryn will have to get her ID from the society and forever become another blip on their radar and live knowing that all her actions are monitored. Bryn's curiosity drives her to find out what exactly the OED wants before she gets her ID and loses her freedom. This was a really interesting read with a unique concept. There's this virus that has been spreading but the only way to destroy them is with Bryn's light and despite the fact that she is wary of the Luxent, she teaches them her technique. She discovers that the Luxent isn't some small rebellion but a worldwide network of rebels that work together to find out the truth behind the OED. The questions aren't answered in this book so you can definitely expect a book filled with suspense and mystery!I really liked Bryn's determination and curiosity. She wasn't just content in letting the OED control her life but rather got involved in a rebellion that her own mother was trying to fight against. The more she spends time with the group, the more she learns about her society and finds out that the OED is an orchestrated network that goes deeper than she could ever had imagined! As for the side characters, they were pretty well-developed. They all were unique and added to the plot except for the two male leads. I can't say it's a love triangle but Curran, as a the male lead, was a little under-developed. He's a convict running away from the OED and has recently lost a friend to them and sometimes you could feel his pain but i felt like we didn't know him enough...that's my only negative for this book. The romance was not the main part of the story, it was more of a background idea that the author brought up but i found myself more intrigued with the discoveries than the romance. The ending was definitely cliffhanger-worthy but it was also a perfect solution to all the problems! I can't wait to see how Bryn's life turns out! I think the second book will focus more on the romance and hopefully we'll get to know Curran a bit more...other than that it was an entertaining read and fully gripping for dystopian lovers!
