Adulthood sucks. With college graduation behind them, Seth Thompson and Bilal al-Mansoori enjoy their last carefree summer. But the perfect future Seth’s envisioned since high school—moving to New York to pursue a career as an artist—doesn’t appeal to city-phobic Bilal. A job offer allowing Bilal to remain in upstate New York drives a wedge between them, and Seth’s family’s well-meaning interference doesn’t help at all. A trip to the UK for Bilal’s sister’s wedding offers a chance to get back on the same page. But their holiday is abruptly cut short when the unthinkable happens… And Seth faces the very real possibility that he may never see the man he loves alive again.

But---and I've read all the Courtland books--someone please tell me why, oh why can't a bisexual man have a monogamous relationship and remain bisexual? Why does it always have to be turned into a triad? Granted, they all loved each other, but--and I'm not a prude by any means, but--this just seems to enforce the stereotype of bisexuals not being able to settle for just one gender without "going over to the other side".

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Romance, sexiness and intrigue By C. Manole Loved this book. It shows the development of established relationships in two generations. The Courtland triad of Nick, Eric and Ally, who continue to evolve with the ups and downs of health problems and political ambitions and on the other side, the younger couple —Seth with his fantasies of being an artist in the city and Bilal, an Iranian with a vision of a more peaceful and bucolic living. The different upbringings and family dynamics play a part in the effort these young men have to make to create their own family rules and reach a loving balance. Add to this the threat coming from Bilal's homeland, that forces them to face serious danger, which will also be important in their growth as individuals and as a couple that is tender and sexy!A pleasure to read, seamless use of the changing POVs, it has romance, sexiness and intrigue, what's not to love?!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The Courtland saga continues... By V. Rundell of V's Reads This is the second book in a new Courtlands series that features the developing relationship between Seth and Bilal and also has chapters that revolve around Seth's father Nick's relationship with Allison and Eric.Seth and Bilal have just graduated form Cornell, and they are struggling to figure out what to do next. Seth wants to move to NYC, and jump headlong into the art scene. Bilal relishes the quieter life of upstate New York, and is offered a job in one of Eric's companies working in Rochester. These are incompatible ideals. One thing is for sure, Seth and Bilal are set to spend a month in England, first for Bilal's sister's wedding, but also to take a break since the end of school. They decide to take it easy on the decisions until that time is up, but their best laid plans go seriously awry.I do not want to spoil here, but I will say that there is a forced separation that is especially harrowing for its resemblance to real-life issues of the LGBTQ community in the Middle East, and also some anti-Muslim sentiment. Bilal knows he can never return to Iran, but he's got an expiring visa and needs documents from his mother's effects, currently with his sister in Oxford, in order to continue living in the US. All he wants to do is get there, get his paperwork in order without returning to Iran, and well, it doesn't QUITE work out.Expect some serious baddies to intervene. And expect Eric and Nick and some assistance from an ex-CIA hacker to bring everyone home safely. This was a tense read, with lots of reflection and remorse on the part of both Seth and Bilal. Their early squabbles regarding mutual support and life plans pale in comparison to this real situation, and the possibility of permanent separation.I think the reason I didn't rate this higher, however, was due to a bit TOO MUCH anger. Bilal has some real issues with communication, and he internalizes his hostility and frustration with Seth's family constantly stepping in to "help." His overarching desire to be his own man causes a real rift that puts himself in grave danger, and it irritated me. I had to keep reminding myself that Bilal and Seth are barely 21 y/o and they are gonna do dumb stuff, especially as this is their first real relationship. There is a decent bit of steam, both M/M (for Seth and Bilal) and M/F/M as Allison regains her strength and begins having relations with Eric and Nick again. For their part, Eric is continually being asked to return to the Senate and he may just cave this time. Nick's been working on a book with his CIA contact, and Allison's stepped away from most things in the process of recuperating from her recent MS flare. The Courtland saga continues...though there is sufficient closure in this book to be a satisfying break.

Fast Erotica Novella By HLLaffin This book started off with some introductions, and as we further get to understand Jake Blair we start to see why it is that he is both cynical, and carefree. Becuase of Jakes age it is understandable why he walks out on possibly the two most important people in his life. However the new people he meets, Jake is able to learn to understand some of his own self more. This book is very erotic and a great quick read.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. something different By cathy Shae and Bless are sent to a mining facility on another planet powered by steam. When they get there they know something isn’t quite right. They are close and love each other but not as lovers. Shae meets a man with a mysterious secret but he could be their only chance of survival. This was a very good story. The world is set up so well and you feel like you are there with Shae and Bless. I loved the mystery and the romance that develops. The only thing I didn’t like is it was a little short and felt rushed. I would have liked to seen even more danger and intrigue and more of the romance between Shae and Standalone and Bless and the mystery man. I wanted more! More! More! That is a good thing LOL.Recommendations: I highly recommend this if you like something really different. A fantastic new world, A good mystery, A little nice sweet romance, hot doctors and hot men with secrets.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Honest, forthright and surprising By Dorothy M. Young Melissa is heartbreakingly honest, but never stoops to prurience. She balances information about the practicalities of her situation with the excitement of exploration and discovery. And she does it all in a page-turner of a narrative. I've already recommended COLLARED to several people. This book is graphic. But it's essential reading for anyone contemplating a Female Led Relationship, and anyone whose love has taken an unconventional fork in the road.

Adams ~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Inked Rainbow Reads Review Team~ 2 stars for this M/MThis book was very hard for me to get into. I was bored and found myself skimming a lot. I am not sure if something got lost in translation or what but I just couldn’t connect with any of the characters and I felt no emotions what so ever at all. The two characters didn’t even meet until almost 40% into the book. I thought once that happened things would start moving faster and things would heat up. Nope, never happened. Noah was just a jerk in my opinion and then he did at total change of character towards the end of the book. Martin I never could figure out. I thought things would heat up and we would get some good detailed scenes. Nope. Also, every time the book said dominator instead of dominate I would just cringe. I am sure some people will love this book, it just wasn’t for me.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. This book was just not for me... By kara So as much as I like BDSM books there was sadly too much about this book that I was honestly not a fan of...First the degrading Noah did of Martin with the way he would call him ugly in his head. That in no way feels romantic to me.Then the game playing that they did, yes that really annoyed me..There was so much about this book I just could not wrap my head around. There was no real caring between these two MC's that I could see and really no steam that was on page.I don't want to give any spoilers away so I will leave this review this book I am sad to say, was just not for me..I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.

Secret Funding is a unique love story with some financial and BDSM background By cinnamon Secret Funding is a unique love story with some financial and BDSM background. In the first half of the book we get to know our main character Noah, who owns his own business and works as a Dominant in a BDSM club, Circle. The storyline keeps switching between his two worlds, the financial one, with his biggest investment negotiations coming to its closing and the Circle. While his work life is very successful, we get to see Noah’s dissatisfaction with his role as a Dominant. He lacks any kind of connection with his subs, and keeps making one mistake after another. He can’t find what he’s looking for. He might not even know what he’s looking for… We clearly understand from the failed attempts in the scene that he is certainly missing something. I really didn’t like these scenes, but understand the purpose of them. When the biggest investment of his life is about to sink, one of the greatest names of the financial world comes to his rescue. Noah is offered a contract and we find ourselves in the middle of a deal, similar to Indecent Proposal and Pretty Woman. Noah accepts the deal, and he finds himself in a situation that might change his life forever and hopefully for the better.I really liked the idea of how Martin teaches Noah about himself, how their connection changes. Martin makes him see everything in a different light, and by showing him what is going on in a sub’s mind he shows him how to be a better Dom. I would have liked to read more about Martin’s background and thoughts. As the book is from Noah’s 3rd person point of view we don’t have any insight of Martin’s world. I think the story idea is great, but some details should have been described in more details. I really enjoyed the ending of the book and it totally made it worth to read.I'd like to thank the author and the publisher for the ARC.Threebooksovertherainbow.wordpress.com

The Romance of King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, by Alfred William Pollard, Thomas Malory

About the Author Scholars have determined that there were at least six Thomas Malorys alive in the 1400s when Le Morte d'Arthur was written. Considerable evidence points to the likeliest author as one Sir Thomas Malory or Maleore of Newbold Revell in Warwickshire, who was born in the first quarter of the fifteenth century. A member of the gentry, he became a soldier in the service of Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick, with whom he fought in the siege of Calais in 1436. In records of the period he is accused of various crimes--including armed robbery, attempted murder, and rape--and he is said to have executed several dramatic escapes from prison. Several things about Malory seem indisputable. As in Arthur's time when post-Roman Britain was in a state of fierce tribal war, he lived in an age of great unrest. Europe was still recovering from the Black Plague and a century of war. In England, two powerful families fought for the throne. Although he may have been a scoundrel, Malory was also, it seems clear, a man of ideals who believed in courage and loyalty, and who mourned the passing of chivalry. Incarcerated for long periods, he had many hours to fill his imagination with French romances and tales of chivalry, volumes of which were readily at hand. It is thought that Le Morte d'Arthur was written during his imprisonment. Malory referred to himself as a 'knight-prisoner.' With a military man's passion for the details of conquest, a prisoner's sense of injustice, and a penitent's desire for redemption, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to this retelling of the Arthurian legends. Sir Thomas Malory died, it is presumed, around 1471.

By kara Wow this book was terrifyingly scary!Okay this book was mainly M/F even though the two MC's did not like each other in fact I believe they hated each other so in no way shape or form would I call this anything other than a very good horror book. Yes you do see little parts of Ethan from his POV who is Jeff's brother and also in a relationship with a man named Keaton, they also have a baby.Everything that happened in this book to Jeff's inner dialogue which was really dark and crazy even before he started getting visits from the Rascal to the Rascal which that dark ghost was terrifying. So in this book Jeff and Chloe buy a cottage trying to reconnect after what Chloe had done to Jeff. Well Jeff pretty much hates her now and vice versa. Then all these bad things happen and the things that go bump in the night. Let me tell you do not read this book in the dark like I did I am sitting here still freaked out by what happened in this book. Then there was the ending where I am sitting there wanting to yell through the book Keaton take bug and run right now!The ending in this book was so messed up I was just sitting there stunned for the longest time. I have to say this was one of the darkest books I have read in a long time and I loved it! Because you are sitting there thinking everything will be all right things are looking okay Chloe and Ethan have figured out what to do then Mind Blown!!! What just happened, that was not supposed to happen...Then you are sad because why did that have to happen! So if you are in the mood for a very good horror book were you are sitting there wondering who is more scarier one of the MC's or the thing that goes bump in the night I can not recommend this book enough! I really loved this book because there is nothing better then reading a book were the author has pulled you in the story so much that you feel like jumping when something happens to one of the characters.I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.

She did her best to ignore them, to not see what was hidden to most people. In a last ditch effort to save their failing marriage, Chloe buys a cottage just outside of the small town of Wicker – a way for her and Jeff to get away from their current life and maybe re-connect. A year of regret and recriminations, the consequence of Chloe’s choices. But, really, buying a cottage on a place called Bad Luck Hill by the locals should have been a heads up that things were not going to go according to plan! Their neighbour, and previous owner of the cottage, is faded movie star Lana Pruitt. Lana has her fair share of secrets. Years ago she lost her only child, a daughter Rebecca, and not long after, her husband Michael disappeared. Her days are spent at the big house up the hill from the cottage, avoiding everything and everyone.Despite Chloe’s efforts, Jeff has not been able to forgive or forget and it becomes increasingly obvious he has no wish to try anymore. Maybe he never really tried. Past events showed Jeff had a darkness in him, a shade of selfishness. A way in, perhaps, for something with ill intentions. As the couple settle into their new home, Chloe’s unease builds, her feelings becoming more and more impossible to ignore. There’s something else besides them in the cottage, and it does not mean them any good. Meanwhile, Jeff’s efforts to fix the cottage and the nearby barn slip further and further into obsession. The old well demands his attention and it increasingly becomes Jeff’s sole focus.Jeff’s younger brother, Ethan, finds himself thinking of his estranged brother. Jeff was always the Golden Boy in their family. Although they’ve barely talked for a couple of years, he feels compelled to reach out to Jeff, half-convinced that something is wrong. Ethan has built a good life with his husband Kenton and their young child, but resentment of the older brother who abandoned him still remains. Despite that, when Chloe calls obviously fearful of the strange illness that has taken over Jeff, Ethan goes to them to offer what help he can. What he finds there is more than can be explained away by logic.Wow, this story was deliciously creepy from beginning to end. I felt off balance in the best possible sense, never quite knowing what was around the corner. The Rascal isn’t a romance. There is no sex. This is a horror story through and through. It is atmospheric and menacing and keeps you off balance. Just like a good horror story should. The opening prologue reaches out and grabs you, like it’s saying “you better hang on tight, because this story is going to take you on one hell of a ride”. And it did. The malevolence of the rascal is incredibly disturbing with how it seeps into the thoughts of everyone. I literally had no idea how this was all going to end up. They all had bitterness that the rascal could feed off to find a way in. They all had genuine love that could give them the strength to keep him out. There were twists that blindsided me and kept me on my toes. The imagery is wonderfully emotive. Creepy and melancholic, the author’s deft touch presents a great sense of unease, building the tension as this couple’s broken relationship feeds and strengthens whatever spirit resides within the cottage and its surrounds. The Rascal kept me captivated as the events played out to an uncompromising end. This is horror at its best.

One Of Eric Arvin's Best By Cindi - On Top Down Under Book Reviews Every time I attempt to review an Eric Arvin book I get nervous because I know that there’s no way I’ll be able to tell the story in my review where it does it justice. I’ve been a fan of Eric’s since I discovered Woke Up In A Strange Place in 2011 and I’ve read everything of his I could get my hands on since. Three of his books will forever be considered three of the best books I’ve ever read, and trust me, I’ve read thousands of books. I never read a book by this author that I didn’t love. Not many can suck me into new worlds like he’s always been able to do.Another thing I have to mention is that this is not a gay romance. It is not a romance at all really. It is a horror book with a gay character in it. I hate even saying that, but I know that some people will go into it expecting it to be something it’s not. I watched it happen with a couple of his other books. I don’t want to see it happen with this one. If you’re looking for a romance or anything remotely like a lot of the books in the LGBT genre right now, do the author a favor and read another book. This, coming from a long time fan who feels that everyone should be reading Eric Arvin’s books. With that being said –Jeff and Chloe have just purchased a cottage in the middle of nowhere, sight unseen, in a place called Bad Luck Hill. Married, they’ve been having some pretty serious problems for over a year and this is their way of maybe finding their way back to each other. The problems in their marriage are made known to the reader little by little throughout the book. At first, they just seem like your typical young couple who are hoping to escape to work on their marriage without the interference of jobs and family, but it doesn’t take long before you realize that there are issues between them that might not be fixable. When the couple arrives at the cottage in the woods, Chloe starts having these strange feelings… creepy feelings. She’s always felt that she was a little ‘sensitive’ so it doesn’t take long before she’s terrified of her new home. These feelings she gets aren’t just paranoia. One such feeling actually likely saved her and Jeff’s life once upon a time. In the cottage, there are shadows everywhere, sounds that aren’t the old house settling, and very strange dreams. She tries talking to Jeff about her fears, but she may as well be talking to the old well out back. He’s very bitter about something she did (what caused the riff in their relationship) and if it was up to him Chloe would be long gone. There are some things that can’t be forgiven and when you throw in the fact that Jeff isn’t a forgiving type on a good day, well there you go. Jeff and Chloe may live in the same house, but trust me, they are little more than roommates who don’t get along with each other. While Chloe hates the new place, Jeff absolutely loves it. There’s something about the old barn out back and the newly discovered (by him) well that makes him obsessed. He’s determined to see what’s at the bottom of the old well. Then we have Lana Pruitt. Lana lives in a large house that overlooks the small cottage in the woods. Lana has her own problems and they too are centered around the property the cottage sits on. Lana, with good reason, hasn’t ventured down the hill for many, many years. Things.. happened.. there years before and she swore to never leave the safety of her own house again. Back in the day, Lana was a very famous actress. She had a wonderful husband and a precious little girl. All that is gone now, leaving only a bitter (and eccentric) old woman living in a much too large house on a hill. With Jeff so obsessed with his new projects outside of the cottage, Chloe is forced to deal with the goings on inside it. Voices, the sounds of music at odd times, unexplained sightings, and horrific nightmares that feel as real to her as if she’s wide awake living them. Talking to Jeff is out. He won’t even look her in the eye, much less allow her to discuss her fears with him. When Jeff starts getting sick, Chloe knows there’s more to the place than just a little haunting. Something – or someone – is trying desperately to destroy her and Jeff, and if she doesn’t do something quick, there will be nothing left.Chloe and Lana strike up a friendly relationship of sorts. It would never be called a friendship, as Chloe is (in my opinion) a little too self-centered to open her eyes to anything outside of her own little world. Jeff is still acting strangely and getting sicker by the day. This, on top of being horrible to Chloe for just being in his presence.Perhaps I should enlighten you a little about Jeff. Jeff was the ‘Golden Child’ growing up. He had a younger brother, Ethan, but it was common knowledge to all that Jeff was the favorite of the parents. He was the athlete, the perfect child, the, well, everything. Poor Ethan was lucky if his mother and father even glanced his way. They had no problem letting Ethan know that he would never be as good as his older brother of two years. I won’t spoil it here, but I will say that I was not a fan of Jeff for a variety of reasons, one of which was his relationship with Ethan. Ethan is gay and it was fairly obvious that that was an issue for Jeff and Chloe.Ethan is married to Kelton and they have an adopted child, affectionately dubbed ‘Bug’. While Kelton and Bug weren’t in the story much, they were in it enough for me to fall in love with them. Out of the blue Ethan starts getting a strange feeling in regards to his estranged brother. It’s something he can’t explain even to himself, but he knows he has to check on him, even if it means dealing with his sister-in-law, who he blames for the demise of his and Jeff’s relationship. While speaking with Chloe in a video chat, he sees something behind her in the cottage and (to be blunt) he kind of freaks out and knows beyond doubt that something is seriously wrong in his brother’s world. It doesn’t take long before he’s off on a trip to parts unknown in hopes of fixing whatever is going on. Does Jeff deserve his brother’s help? Probably not, but family is family and Ethan can’t go on without at least trying to help in any way he can.I adored Ethan from the moment he was introduced… everything about him. As the sister of another ‘perfect’ child (believe me, I could relate in so many ways to Ethan’s childhood), I had a lot of sympathy for him. I think it’s pretty obvious that I didn’t like Jeff too much. I thought I liked Chloe but when I discovered what she’d done to Jeff way back when, any good feelings I had for her disappeared in a puff of smoke. When Ethan arrives at the cottage is when everything really starts coming to a head. I could say a lot more, but I won’t because it would spoil the entire book. I will say that there’s more than one ‘ghost’ or ‘being’ involved in the hauntings on Bad Luck Hill. I will also say that this is one hell of a creepy book. I’m a huge horror fan, so I was all over those aspects of the story, but they might bother some readers.Once again, Eric Arvin has blown me away. There is one part in the book where I had to sit my Kindle down and send my blog partner a message saying “Oh my gawd! I did not see what just happened coming.” It’s one of those things that I should’ve seen, but it never clicked until the author said it point blank. Suddenly every single thing that had happened in the book so far made sense in ways I never would’ve imagined. Not much can take me by surprise in books these days. It was refreshing to have that “A ha!” moment thrown at me unexpectedly. If you’re already a fan of Eric Arvin’s books, you’ll be all over this book. If you’ve never read him and love horror, I can’t recommend it (or any of his books) enough. I feel like a broken record when I say that Eric Arvin’s writing is brilliant and that was proven yet again in The Rascal. I’ll admit that the ending kind of threw me for a little while and I had to walk away to collect my thoughts before attempting this review. Looking back I know that the ending was 100% perfect and it couldn’t have ended any other way.Review originally published at ontopdownunderbookreviews.com.
