Captain Tristan Kelley enjoys the luxuries of Regency service, as well as the pleasure of his prince's bed. It's an easy life, if not a happy one. When the prince decides to take a trip through the perilous Blind Space, Tristan must go with him, but somebody in the prince's guard is a traitor.
Blind and held prisoner, Tristan finds himself at the mercy of Valero, a pirate who bears no love for the Regency. Valero is determined to seduce Tristan, and Tristan fears his resolve won't last. His duty is clear, but so is his desire. As the days tick by with no word or ransom from the Regency, Tristan begins to question what loyalty means to his prince, the Regency he's sworn to, and to the man who holds him captive. He begins to realize that being a prisoner may actually set him free.

Anchor Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.Rating: 8/10PROS:- I liked both of the main characters. Valero has an air of amusement about him that is fun and refreshing, and Tristan is practical and naïve all at once. His attitude is matter-of-fact without coming across as horribly cynical, and I admired his willingness to discover the unpleasant truths about his world rather than remaining self-righteous.- Tristan is unable to see for the better part of the story, and Sexton does well with depicting his surroundings without being able to describe anything visual.- The game of seduction here is quite sexy: lots of small touches and words spoken in quiet tones. (And the guessing game once Valero discovers that Tristan has a fetish that he's not anxious to divulge? Delicious.) It was a nice change of pace from the rough-and-tumble intimacy with which characters fall into bed in many books in this genre.- The sci-fi world is fairly well-formed, especially for how short the story is. There are small details about the story's setting thrown in here and there rather than any long passes of description, but the details are intriguing.CONS:- The ending seemed a bit rushed. There's a climactic escape sequence that seemed all good to me, but the wind-down afterwards could have used a little more development.- The identity of the bad guy is quite obvious, right from the start. It's not a mystery story, though, so I was very forgiving of this.Overall comments: This is only the second Marie Sexton story I've read, so I can't compare it to her other stories as a whole. It's a little on the fluffy side, but I really liked it, from almost the first page all the way to the end. The sex is hot, there's very little angst, and the writing is clean and flows easily.

Kind of disappointing By oceanjasper I liked the premise of the book and I have loved some other Marie Sexton works, so I had expectations which Blind Space failed to meet. There are interesting romantic possibilities here which are not explored with any depth. The hero being blind and helpless yet seemingly cherished by his enemy could have made for the kind of moments of fear, doubt and touching emotional connection that abound in Marie Sexton's other books, but not here. The book isn't bad. The prose is assured, there is enough world building for me and the plot is entertaining, but overall this was a letdown.

Promises and Between Sinners And Saints are two my favorite rereads full stop. So I guess I have very high expectation of her. Blind Space is a fun sci fi romp. The characters and the relationships don't have the depth and reality that her other books do. There's nothing particularly wrong with Blind Space, it's light, frothy, silly, with space pirates who actually dress as pirates, but never do anything really harmful. There are no shades of grey, the good guys are totally good, the bad guys totally bad. If it was from someone else I may give it 3.5 or 4 stars. Even the ideas here, meeting someone when temporarily blinded, and what falling for your captor can actually mean, could have been explored with far more depth, but instead were skated over. Marie Sexton is such a fine writer and can write such nuanced engaging romances, that I found this disappointing.Around 2000 locations, a short, slight story for the cost. I was disappointed and I won't reread.
