For Jacob and Daniel, two young gay men aboard a US Navy ship in WWII, the risks are high. Not only the risks of injury and death from Japanese planes and submarines, but the risk of discovery. Only a special kind of love is worth taking that chance. But from the moment Daniel meets Jacob's eyes across a battle-scarred deck, he knows he has to try. Being together requires figuring out what it means to be gay in an era when they could be discharged, imprisoned, or worse for admitting the desires of their hearts. Their relationship is measured in stolen moments and rare days of precious leave, with no guarantee there will be a tomorrow. And, if they survive the war, they will need even more luck to keep their love alive through the years to come.

This novel was written as part of the Goodreads M/M Romance Group's 2012 Don't Read in the Closet writing event: Love is Always Write. A Beautiful Epic Story By ASavi Daniel Arcadi and Jacob Segal first met on their late teens, back in 1942, when both were part of the crews of USS Gageway, during World War 2. Daniel was Second Seaman and Jacob was pharmacist's mate. The two souls stroke a chord of friendship that soon turned into deeper relationship, when both men realized they had feeling for each other. A feeling that is so strong, that spans more than six decades ...---------------------------About 2/3 part of the book happens in the 1940's, that earlier part of Daniel and Jacob's relationship. We get to read about their connecting as two young men, serving their country. How they stumble on how to do sex for the first time, how they must keep their relationship under wrap, since situation is not really on their side. I love the tentativeness when they approach sex, both never have done it with men before, so they learn their way together. It's so sweet and wonderful. The last 1/3 part of the book tells chunk of chapters in their life, like when Jacob helps Daniel to overcome his post-war trauma, or during Stonewall, or when they finally get a cat .. each and every one of them important. It does feel slightly rushed though, because we only get one or two scenes in the 1950's, 1960's, 1980's, 1990's, and 2012. BUT, I also think it's impossible to capture ALL of the days in the sixty-nine years of their life together. It's perfectly well-written -- Kaje Harper also pens the horror of war, amidst of the love story. Chapter 7, for example, that captures the night when USS Gageway was attacked, and forced Daniel and Jacob to fight for their life in the sea -- it feels like a screenplay out of the "Titanic" movie. It's just so bloody good. Then, the ending, such sweet ending. This story brings tears to my eyes several time over. And as a reader, I can only say thank you for story ...

By Neil in Morgan Hill I have given "Into Deep Waters" a 5-star rating as it deserves it and my whole hearted recommendation.I once was a teacher and also an English major in my undergraduate degree. I am also a 60 year old gay male and my father was a WWII veteran who suffered mental anguish after the war. I didn't want to read a war novel or a dull memoir. Reluctantly, I thought I would give it a try. The novel had set in my wish list for some time and I waited to see what others would have to say about the novel. Based on so many glowing reviews, I decided to give it a try and downloaded the sample. It didn't take long before I quickly completed the download and read it in a day!The story covers the early stages of this budding, loving and endearing relationship as the relationship struggles to survive the war and the deep emotional and physical scars that are left in its wake. Various highlights of Daniel Arcadi's and Jacob Segal's life are captured and captivate the reader as the reader is drawn into the typical issues that face gay relationships over time. As the time period was one that covers tremendous challenges for gay people to rise up out to oppression, the view from the eyes of Daniel and Jacob hint at what it was like for gay couples daring to hope that just maybe there would be some form of acceptance during their lifetime. The end of the story is touching and still brings tears of joy as Daniel and Jacob fulfill a lifelong dream. This story is not always easy to read, but I found the rewards far outweigh the anguish of war. This story is based on a letter and a photo of two men who found each other and stayed together as a loving, committed couple. I do not know how much research was done by the author, Kaje Harper. Whether through a vivid imagination or observation of veterans and older gay couples, the author has created a story that is not only believable but enduring. Kaje does not sensationalize the grim aspects of war nor glosses over its harsh reality. Rather, it is told from the perspective of two men that do what they have to do to serve their country, survive, care for others and care for each other in a horrific situation. I found myself experiencing the anguish, fear and stress of what it was like for so many as they hope and pray for their loved ones away at war. What I most like is Kaje's respect for the reader's ability to relate to the experiences and views of the characters to build an emotional bound with the story. The story is focused on the experiences of Daniel and Jacob and world events as they experience them.I highly recommend "Into Deep Waters" for the romantic who can look past the harsh events experienced by Daniel and Jacob during the war and who can enjoy following a loving couple through various stages of life and who cope with the challenges of ageing.

All the trials and tribulations of being gay in the 40s, 50s and 60s were described so well by the author. It was scary to relive some of those feelings and fears of so many years ago. The story is so well told that I really felt like the two men were people I have known for years.

Haven--an underground facility that runs more like a boarding school for abnormal boys--has been the only home Cole has ever known. With no memory of his past, Cole relies on Marla, the woman leading the USA branch who found him in the New York underground. While the paranormal is common for members of Haven, Marla and the others still refuse to admit what Cole really is: an incubus. Bastian, a stern young man from Haven Germany, can discern lies and sense evil, but the dark aura he feels around Cole doesn't match the boy's polite and giving nature. Fascinated by his strange, new ally, Bastian finds himself drawn deeper into the other boy's struggle with what he might be, and what it might mean for the safety of everyone else at Haven. With Cole relying exclusively on his love-sick friend for his "meals," and Bastian entangled in a shaky relationship with another teammate, the uncanny attraction the two feel for each other only stirs the pot, threatening the balance of their team. And once Bastian realizes their leader is drawing connections between their foggy pasts, he begins to wonder if their destinies are more entangled than they could have ever imagined.

Garner From jbgarner58.wordpress.com:While the more erotic end of romance fiction is rare in my extensive pantry, it certainly isn’t non-existent! Today, as part of the Local Author Assault, it’s time to serve up Hungry for You, a contemporary erotic LGBT fantasy romance (that’s a lot of words!) done in the yaoi style of Japanese gay romance. Will Hungry crystallize the visual style of the manga and anime it is inspired from into a written form or will it fall short? Before we cut the romance cake, let us recount the vows of the Starving Reviewer:1. I attempt to rate every book from the perspective of a fan of the genre2. I attempt to make every review as spoiler-free as possibleHungry fulfills what I believe to be the most critical ingredient of romance, erotic or not, and that is, well, a real romance. The truth is that just because there is a romantic relationship during a meal, it doesn’t have to a good one. There is a great attention to detail here in terms of romantic chemistry and, in general, the bonds of friendship. Hungry examines a variety of romantic entanglements and relationships over the courses of the meal, both good and bad, and it handles them all with surprising delicacy and feeling.Another part of the meal that Hungry is the core plot itself. Again, a misstep I see from time to time in the romance and erotica genres is a tendency to forgo an actual plot to focus entirely on the romance (or sex, as the case may be). There is an ongoing plot and a bit of world-building going on, setting the table well and helping to properly pace out the erotic and romantic scenes. There is even a bit of well-done action to spice the entire dish up.Though this meal is certainly a meal for adults, with no sugar-coating of the various sex scenes that take place, it never puts these scenes in for mere shock value or titillation. Each erotic scene has a place in the overall plot and story as well, making them matter all the more. There’s really not much more I can say without breaking the taboo of SPOILERS, so let’s wrap this up. Hungry for You tops the list of erotic romantic meals, with dashes of action, fantasy, and real plot to make it flavorful! If you have any interest in the yaoi manga genre, LGBT erotic romance, or urban fantasy with an erotic side, this is an essential meal to add to your menu. However, above all, it is very much a gay erotic romance, with all that entails, and if that doesn’t interest you, you should leave this one in the pantry.FINAL VERDICT: ***** (Topping the list of erotic romantic meals, with dashes of action, fantasy, and real plot to make it flavorful!)

Good first effort, looking forward to more By Phoenix I enjoyed reading about Haven and Bastien and Cole.Bastien and Cole's relationship grew pretty organically and it was easy to root for them. I enjoyed that both boys had intimate experience aside from each other, as imperfect as those relationships were. It made their draw to and connection with each other more believable. While the romance between Bastien and Cole was enjoyable, the rest of the book was not as engaging. Though the missions that the boys were sent on were interesting, they lacked cohesion or connectivity. The team leaders were two dimensional authority figures. There was no investigation into the Haven organization or the boys' pasts. It was all merely a stage for Cole and Bastien's love story rather than a living world.I enjoyed the story while I was reading it, and am glad that I did so. It was not engaging enough to read again, however.Editing:The writing was clear. There was an editorial error in the first page of the book, but after that jarring introduction it was pretty smooth sailing.
