If you were offered the chance to be young forever, would you take it?

Kenneth Sean Campbell’s Forever explores this question through the wonderful world of gay vampires, eschewing the overwrought angst driving today’s vampire literature for a more original spin. Campbell’s thought-provoking writing brings wit and sophistication to this classic genre.

Encompassing a rich history that stretches from before recorded time to the present, Forever weaves a Gothic tale of mystery and romance that begins with Waxu, a strange being of unknown origin, whose lust is awakened by the human Ger-Lad. They become the founders of a vast vampire dynasty that flourishes through the ages.

Ger-Lad eventually makes his way to 1846 New Orleans, where, under the name Gerald Graves, he seduces a young doctor whose life of loneliness and deception is slowly wearing him down. Dr. Robert Lazarus welcomes his induction into this intriguing community, but unlike Gerald, his quest is more for love than for power.

It’s in the modern-day Bay Area gay scene, where Andy Oliver is struggling with the aging process, that the central question of the book is addressed, as Andy and his best friend Pete are launched on a fascinating supernatural adventure.

About the Author

Kenneth Sean Campbell is a native of Texas and a graduate of Southern Methodist University. Other than a brief detour to Oregon, he has been living in California for over thirty years. He considers his current residence of Sacramento to be his “hometown.” If it’s good enough for Joan Didion…

After retiring from a thirty-five-year career as a writer, he realized he just couldn’t stop, going on to develop the stories he’d always wanted to write, but kept putting off—or didn’t think would sell. And he’s having the time of his life doing it! Campbell is the author of four novels: Without Paradise, Home, Gangplank! and his latest, Forever.

Like so many Californians, Campbell lives a clean, healthy lifestyle, finding the gym to be a wonderful place to think and work through problems in his writing. His relationship status on Facebook says it all: “It's complicated.”

Campbell's take on where the vampire originates is a good one, not quite what I expected. I also like his telling of the Gerald Graves' life through centuries of history. I think it speaks to the author's ability to write a good gay novel without a running series of sexual exploits. The characters in the story are gay, yet unlike many "gay" plotlines; Campbell concentrates more on character development and the muystery of the story than he does on sexual adventures. I would recommend this novel to anyone who is a fan of the vampire genre and to anyone who likes a good story and not just simple erotica.

Yes, the vampires are gay...but the genre has always been rife with homoerotic overtones. What I liked is how the vampire characters were presented as both supernaturally powerful and yet, to varying degrees, emotionally vulnerable. It makes for a more fun vampire take. It's a romance but it has a good sense of humor (something I've enjoyed in all Kenneth Sean Campbell's books).

Late in the Spring of the Second World War. Two “troublemakers” are thrown together in an old storage shed in Auschwitz: Viktor Frankl, a psychiatrist who is making notes on the book he will write if he survives the camp, and Edith Stein, a Jewish philosopher/author who defied her family to become a nun. With the dawn comes Liberation, or Extermination. They make a contract for comedy, but the reality of their characters, and their deep curiosity about each other, draw them again and again, to reveal their ideas, their joys, and the deepest longing of their souls. Elizabeth Clark-Stern is a psychotherapist, screenwriter, and playwright. Her produced teleplays include All I Could See From Where I Stood, Help Wanted, and Having Babies II. Her play, Out of the Shadows: A Story of Toni Wolff and Emma Jung was performed at the International Jungian Congress in South Africa, and for the Archetypal Theater Company in New Orleans. In 2013, On the Doorstep of the Castle: A Play of Teresa of Avila and Alma de Leon was performed at the International Jungian Congress in Copenhagen. Timeless Night premiered in 2014 in Seattle.

Two like souls, the Carmelite Edith Stein and the Doctor of the Soul Viktor Frankl, are thrust together, not knowing whether the dawn will bring freedom or death. In the little time they know they have together, they talk as only they can about faith and fear, about love and loss, about hunger and what it means to see your loved ones die. And more than anything, they talk about making meaning in a life that has been robbed of nearly everything. The premise is a construct; thought both were incarcerated by the Germans Edith Stein and Viktor Frankl never met, never shared a timeless night together. But Elizabeth Clark-Stern makes their meeting one that we hope would happen just this way, for it brings us in and makes us think, too, about what is important and meaningful when all is said and done. Her thoughtful dialogue is by turns filled with pathos and humor, making deeply philosophical material personal and human. In the same vein as "Freud's Last Patient" and Cormac McCarthy's "Sunset Limited," Timeless Night is a wonderful addition to the genre ofphilosophical discussion as theater. I heartily recommend it as a play, and as reading.

A skillful depiction of two fascinating souls By Dixie In Elizabeth Clark Stern’s Timeless Night, Victor Frankl and Edith Stein face possible death at daybreak. During their night together, they reveal themselves in ways that bring reality to theory, concrete to abstract, and personhood to philosophy. The author’s skillful depiction of Stein and Frankl as they struggle with what is important and manage to comfort each other in a terrifying situation, comforted me too, and brought me closer to treasuring my time with the people I love. I absolutely recommend Timeless Night as an intriguing glimpse into two souls well worth glimpsing.

By Shawn LaSala-Kimmel In the darkest of all nights, two people transcend hopelessness and terror, to find comfort, warmth, even love. Each discovers within one another a rare sense of dignity, brilliance, a capacity for humor in the face of perilous uncertainty. Through this tender companionship they help each other recover their most precious and painful memories--the things that define their humanity. They hold them close--and each other--until the inevitability of morning comes.Another profound and poignant play by a gifted writer.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This book was just not for me... By kara So I will be honest and say parts of this book I had a hard time wrapping my head around. Some things were just too far out there for me unfortunately. Also as much as I liked the world this author created I had a really hard time finishing this book.. Sadly it just did not grab me.You get Ariel who is a Union member in their world and then there was Vivian who is a liberator. So with out getting to much into this and giving away a lot of spoilers they both come different factions and Ariel goes undercover to infiltrate the Liberators. While there he continually breaks Vivian's trust and Vivian just forgives him. That was another part I just did not get. So this is were I will say sadly this book was just not for me... There was just too much that did not add up to me so I was left feeling a little confused.I received this book free in exchange for an honest review from Inked Rainbow Reads.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Unfortunately this book has not been edited or well thought out By Candy Anderson I hate to give bad book reviews, but do not waste your money on this book. I only give bad reviews to authors who obviously write a book to make money and have people give them false positive reviews.First, you can tell by the description, that this is going to be a badly written book. Then you looked inside and start reading. I could not follow what was going on or understand the flow of conversation. I was confused before I finished the first page. The mechanics and content both were very bad. This book has two major flaws, it was never edited and it was not thought out well. If you are going to publish a book, make sure you hire a good editor. This is how I knew that the positive reviewer did not read this book. The thoughts were not well written or thought out. All high school students are taught a method for writing paragraphs, you could not tell where paragraphs began or ended. Again, I was confused after reading the first page. There was no unity to the paragraphs.Let me give you two examples of the bad mechanics...."he drug Melanie". See anything wrong with that sentence? It should be dragged or pulled, or hauled. The next example is "You're" where it should have read you are, and I would have written something like 'it's you" or more dramatic "it's you, baby". Please look inside before you buy this book.Advice for this author, take some college classes in writing, go to a writing conference, and please pay a good editor before you publish. If you want this book to be taken as real writing it needs some major revisions. Here are some questions to ask yourself when you are writing....Is the way I’m planning to organize my ideas working? Is it explained clearly? Does the information seem to be in the right order? What can I say in my introduction and conclusion? Are there any noticeable spelling or grammar errors? What can I learn as a writer about this writing experience? And don't pay people to give you positive reviews.
