2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A fast-paced, suspenseful story By wifie29 I was drawn into Grace's world right from the start. She's smart, capable, and strong--exactly the kind of woman I look for in a lead character. I tend to expect two things for any story to hold my interest after the first pages: First, does it keep me wondering what's going to happen next? Second, do I care about any of the characters? Grace delivers on both counts. At the close of every chapter, I couldn't wait to read the next. There's plenty of tension to keep readers engaged throughout. However, the best part about the book is Grace herself and the fascinating people populating her life. All of them, from the criminals to the kids to Grace's friends and coworkers, are captivating. I found myself thinking that these are people I'd like to know in real life (a hallmark of Adrian Smith's writing style, if you've read any of her other works). Most importantly, if I needed someone on my side, I'd want it to be Grace herself. This is easily the kind of book you could sit down with and lose track of the time. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to escape into another life for an afternoon.

Grace is a deputy who cruises her area of town, looking for the next crime in progress. The criminals she comes in contact with spit on her, punch her, resist arrest, she carries on like a true professional. She does not lose her cool. She ask everyone their story. Some of the things I like about her is she will yell out stop resisting or I will tase you or pepper spray you. She uses the least amount of force to get the job done, while maintaining the perps dignity, regardless that they in most cases don`t give her the same consideration. She is a true cop, keeps the environment in all situations in her sights anticipating the evils most men are capable of. It seemed like a true depiction of cop life. She has friends all over and the day to day interactions of this special lady brings to life how special she is, and how much her friends know her little quirks, like several offer orange juice, or kid her when she falls down. She admits to being clumsy, a source of embarrassment to her. She meets the chaplain on her force. The slow getting to know each other, being vulnerable, is true to life, and as another reviewer says, it is so sweet to watch their relationship unfold. I am truly waiting with bated breath, the next instalment of " For by Grace"
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Complete pleasure to read By KatByrdie Another brilliant book by AJ that I had the pleasure of reading chapter by chapter before it was published. I haven't read this version, though (a few changes were made), so I'm super excited to read the final product! When I read the first version, I was on the edge of my seat the entire way. Grace and Amya are such brilliant characters. I kept finding a little of myself in each one. I love how realistic AJ's books are. Most writers over dramatize things, while AJ shows day by day trials that cops and pastors face. It's not always shootouts and murder scenes; there are traffic accidents and simple events. Don't get me wrong, if you're read AJ's other books, you know she will kill people off in a second, but she doesn't over-dramatize just for the hell of it.Amya and Grace's relationship is so sweet. I love them as much as Addison and James. Getting to see their start is so wonderful. Amya is so kind and grounded. I love that about her. The plot of this keeps building and the ending much broke me. I can't wait until the second book! I NEED IT NOW!
