It's been a while since I read the first one so it took me a bit to figure out who was who and where things were at. This is a short one and brings the college students forward a few years to graduation and what comes next. I enjoyed getting caught up with Rob and his frustration that all his friends are going different directions and then Cole and Ellis as they hunt for jobs and get ready for marriage. Ellis and Cole are hot and horny guys and I chuckled over the remembered Cole snarkishness and Ellis strength and support that reminded me a lot of their early relationship. Seeing them hunting up jobs and a future home while still very much in love was great. Looking forward to seeing what is up with the enigmatic Russell.Engaging and not to be missed for Jock series fans.

Jarman The first of four chapters is about two people who we never see again. We are introduced to a protagonist and his friend and a situation where they are being separated, and then they vanish out of the story and the other three chapters are about two completely new people. Well executed writing failed to make up for me spending the majority of the book wondering when I'd see the people I thought the book was about. Bad form.

This Jock is getting Married (Jock 1.5)’ by Wade Kelly takes place three years after it all began for Cole and Ellis, and caught me up with what they have been doing along with their friends and families.Ellis is his usual optimistic self, determined not to let anything bring him down. He realizes Cole still struggles with the idea of being together and will often say or do things he doesn't mean, simply because he can't imagine why Ellis loves him and pessimistically is afraid it won't last; that it will fade and blow away one day. Ellis is adamant about loving Cole and will say it as many times as Cole needs to hear it. Almost unbelievably, their sexual interludes are continuing to grow in quality and intensity. There are some sizzling moments between them that are reassuring and helps ease Cole's growing concerns about wanting everything to be perfect for the wedding. He's still looking for something to go wrong, even panicking about the weather, but Ellis just keeps reassuring him, countering each concern with an alternative.Their biggest concern as of late is the fact that neither have a job in their chosen fields, Ellis as a teacher and Cole a physicist. Cole's anxiety grows, making him wonder if all the plans they are making will ever be realized, but Ellis keeps asking Cole to trust him and, although it goes against Cole's nature not to worry, he loves Ellis so much he tries his best to at least act as if he believes him.I've always been a fan of this series and these delightful vignettes only increase my affection for the characters. The stories give me a good idea of how the guys are doing and gives me hints about where their lives are leading. It's great to see their parents and realize how supportive they are of Cole and Ellis. It also emphasizes how very much Ellis loves Cole and how far he's willing to go to make him happy. Underneath all of his negativity and worry, Cole does believe and trust Ellis. He is still amazed by the fact that Ellis loves him, but he also knows he loves Ellis just as much, even if he can't always show it. This is obviously not a stand-alone book but it's a great bridge to the next 'Jock' story - ‘No! Jocks Don’t Date Guys’ - and I can't wait to read it. Thanks, Wade, for showing me that Ellis and Cole truly belong together. Originally reviewed at Rainbow Book Reviews.

From the first moment Steve sees Nathan, he knows he’s in trouble. First, Nathan looked just like the doll he’d found on his bed, and second, Steve couldn’t stop thinking how it would feel having Nathan in his arms and under his body. He’s never desired anyone so strongly before, and he’s reluctant to show it, but then Nathan gives him something he hadn’t been conscious of wanting. Stunned, he craves more, but starts to worry what he feels might not be real.Alone and vulnerable after being dumped by his ex, Nathan longs for the security of being in a relationship. With no money, no job, and now a Voodoo Doll out to kill him, Nathan doesn’t think things could get any worse, but then he starts falling for Steve. Problem is, it doesn’t look like Steve feels the same way. Even after Steve finally lets Nathan in, Steve unexpectedly withdraws, refusing to explain why.Unable to cope with another rejection, Nathan succumbs to the evil of the doll. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great read! By Jules-Mighty Tired Mom This is the first book that I have read by Penny Brandon and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!First let me just say that this book is NOT for the faint of heart. It legitimately left me with goosebumps. I was creeped out completely by the whole idea of the "voodoo doll" and it physically harming someone. I actually went and shut the door to my daughter's room in the middle of reading the book, but I really enjoyed the scare factor. The characters are very well-written and complex. There isn't any macho male BS between the two of them, which is very refreshing. Steve is just a genuinely nice guy, who honestly gets trampled on because he IS so nice. And Nathan is a good guy who needs to be with someone because he wants to be loved. Both of them are very easy to relate to because they both struggle with very common human emotions and situations.I think it is the fact that both of them are so very real and empathetic that the paranormal element of the story doesn't really throw the reader off too much. You hear both of their thoughts and feelings so you understand their motivations at every turn, even if they don't understand each other at times. All in all it was a great read and I'm looking forward to the next in the Voodoo Dolls series!

Save Me - Reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews By Donna Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Same Sex Book Reviews with a copy provided by the author / publisher for an honest review. What did I just read?? Ok, not what I was expecting AT ALL! Kinda like a cheesy low budget horror movie that you’re ashamed to admit scared the heck out of you but strangely, oddly, somehow… I really enjoyed it!Steve is the least confrontational man ever to walk the earth, frustratingly so, in fact. He lets everybody in his life walk all over him and he doesn’t have any close friends with whom he can talk through his compiling frustration. During yet another night of hiding under his covers, trying to block out the sound of his neighbor’s pounding music, he hears a little voice urging him to “make him stop”. Steve finds a creepy cloth doll sitting on his bed and completely loses his mind, banging on the wall and screaming at his neighbor. When the neighbor comes knocking on his door to check on his welfare, Steve is absolutely shocked to discover that Nathan is an exact copy of the doll. After reading the blurb I figured we were going to get Nathan’s ex sticking pins in a voodoo doll. Instead, in a Child’s Play-esque type fashion the evil little doll hunts Nathan, wielding scalpels and knives in its attempts to kill the terrified man. Steve takes it upon himself to help his neighbor and what ensues is the road trip from hell, well, it includes a doll from hell, which doesn’t believe in giving up on his intended target. I know I already used the words, cheesy horror flick, but honest to god, that’s exactly what this was like, to the point where you didn’t know whether to cringe or laugh as the slaughter obsessed doll does crazy stuff like trying to neuter Nathan with a scalpel.I found the scenes with the doll so entertaining that I was distracted from the building relationship between Steve and Nathan. The romance angle of this story, while definitely existing through the majority of the tale, was somewhat overshadowed by the presence of the doll. Whenever the two men were having a “moment” I’d be wondering where the doll was and what he was going to do next, which was great for creating tension but I found myself not really paying attention to what was happening on page. So, I guess, you could take that as a pro, or a con, or just my inability to focus for any length of time.If I had any complaint about this story, it would be about the character of Nathan. For me, to earn the position of main character in a story, I need to see some strength from a character. Nathan is probably one of the weakest “save me!” screaming characters that I’ve come across. The presence of the doll was brought about through his weakness and I expected him to show some growth by the end of the story and at least help in the battle to save his own life. But instead he relies on other people to save him; it’s left up to Steve’s character growth to make the difference. If you like a romance with a weird paranormal twist then you’ll probably enjoy this story. I certainly did. There’s no denying the entertainment factor and uniqueness of this book.

Why is it that I always start horror books at nighttime? There I was, comfy in my warm bed, but too afraid to turn out the light. I don’t know about you, but scary dolls with knives freak me out. This is book one in a new series about voodoo dolls, and if the next book is anything like this one, you can count me in. I must admit when the book first started, I thought Steve was kind of mental. He was off the wall whacked out, and if I was Nathan, I would have run for the hills. Of course, they do end up running…but for their lives. Not really sure if I would consider this a voodoo doll story, but more a doll possessed by a demon story…either way, Penny Brandon might want to consider writing more horror stories because she nailed that aspect of the book. The romance was a little off for me, though. I wasn’t too convinced of the chemistry between Steve and Nathan, but I read this for the scary parts so that was okay. In my case, a little gay romance thrown into a horror novel is just a bonus. So, if you are like me and want to switch up your reading and add a little scary time, then I would definitely recommend this book. But be warned, though romance has its parts, it is still scary as heck and you might have a little trouble sleeping.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nicole Edwards presents the second steamy installment in the Sniper 1 Security series. Ryan Trexler has devoted his entire life to his family's security business. And now that he's slated to take over the reins of the company, RT knows his life is only going to get more complicated. Add in the fact that he's lusting over one of the men who works for him, and RT realizes that there are some seriously tough times ahead. Zachariah Tavoularis -- nicknamed Z -- has been employed by Sniper 1 Security for a decade. Despite being known as the most loyal enforcer outside of family, Z also has a reputation for being quite the playboy, though that was based more on rumor than fact. When an assignment comes up that forces the two of them to work together, Z knows it's time to show RT he's not the man everyone thinks he is. Can they complete the mission, despite the fact that it puts them in a tenuous situation, bringing them closer than either of them ever expected? And will Z allow RT to convince him that they can never be together, no matter how much they both want it?

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Sexy Security! By Foxylutely Books! This is the second book in the Sniper 1 Security series, although it is recommended to read in order, I had not read the first book, Wait For Morning, but managed to grasp the background of the Sniper 1 world without too much difficulty. This is RT and Z’s story.Ryan Trexler (RT) is heading up the family security business so the pressure is on him but also causing him some pressure is the constant and heady attraction he has had for Z for nearly a decade!Zachariah Tavoularis (Z) has worked for Sniper 1 security for years and in that time his yearning for RT from afar has been his private hell. Trying to keep things professional whilst his over eager imagination keeps throwing sexy images in his head has been a daily battle. He knows RT has an attraction for him but trying to get the stubborn man to act on his desires is a no go. That is until they are thrown together on a mission to recover a piece of pricey artwork. As with all Nicole Edwards’ books you know you are in for one hell of a ride. There were a lot of names and family hierarchy to get to know and even though a family chart was provided at the beginning it was a little difficult flicking back on the kindle to see who was who. I think if I had read the first book it would have been easier. However there were also characters from her other series which were included in this book – yes we had The Walkers included, yay! – so brand new fans to Ms Edwards might find this a complex read. But as a lifelong fan I found it relatively easy to fall into. I just love how she intermixes her different worlds. Also catching up with the Walkers is always good! The chemistry between JT and Z was tantalising and kept me pushing for them to get it on! JT being hesitant due to his past relationship blurring the lines of business and personal. His ex, Kevin, had made a huge error of judgement due to his insecurities that almost cost JT and his family the business plus JT’s reputation. So I could understand his reluctance to act on his attraction to Z but at times I just wanted to push him! However when he took the plunge these two were smoking hot together. I loved Z and his sense of humour but I also loved his more sensitive side and how he hid his hurt that JT put him through. The secondary characters (as I say there are a lot to get to know) were a delightful addition to the storyline. As with the Walkers I love how the older generation (Casper and Bryce) are so accepting of their children and their sexual preferences. It is good to read an m/m romance without the need for the hateful bigotry you get in other books. Yes I know that it happens but it’s nice to read without it sometimes.Overall this was an in depth and involving read with plenty of lust, passion but also with sensitivity and love. Another great addition to the sexy work of Nicole Edwards and a different series to get hooked on. Four stars.

Great storyline and thoroughly enjoyed Ryan and Z. Can relate to both... Ryan, whose afraid to take a chance again, and the big, open hearted Z whose afraid of continuously putting himself out there...READ&REVIEW BY DAUGHTER: I LOVED THIS BOOK. WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE USUAL M/M BOOKS I USUALLY READ. JUST LOVED THE SWEET ENDING. I DIDN'T READ PART 1 BUT DIDN'T MATTER TO ME; GREAT BOOK!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. 4.5 sexy southern stars By paddlefoot1397 Nicole Edwards writes great m/m romances, so the chance to read an advance copy of Never Say Never is a given. When I finished reading the first book in the series, I said that I RT and Z's story - which began to get set up at the end of that book - was one I was really looking forward to. And I was not disappointed.Ms Edwards is just magic when it comes to writing m/m romance. She just gets it right every time. There were so many times I wanted to slap some sense into RT - gah, every else around him, his family, his friends, could all see it but him. I gripped my kindle so hard and just had to scream at it to "wake up and smell the hot guy who wants you!"Z was just ... sigh ... Z. He was sweet, hot, sexy, and most of all consistent in what he wanted - RT. My heart hurt for him as RT played the push/pull game with him. It was like 2 steps forward, one step back! I couldn't fault Z for feeling a bit distrustful when it came to RT's words and actions. We got lots more of the Trexler and Kogan family - couldn't be a story without them all sticking their noses in (in the nicest possible way of course!) As much as their meddling would be annoying and frustrating, you know they love it.So, can RT get over his hang ups from the past, and take that leap with Z for a future together? Or will it be too much for Z to take?Nope, for that you are going to have to read for yourself.I loved that we also got more of the Adorite family (from the Southern Boy Mafia Series). These series and characters intertwine so it would not be right without a bit of them. The minute I started reading, I did not want to put Never Say Never down. It had its fair share of mystery and suspense, along with a truck load of sexual tension - which of course leads to some super sexy times! I felt myself pulled into the whirlwind that is the Sniper 1 Security family, and didn't want to leave. Can't wait to see what we get next from the Trexler/Kogan/Adorite families!**copy received for an honest review**

★*´¨) ¸.•´¸.•*´¨) An amazing new book by Layla Stevens. Warning: This book is graphic in nature. 18+ is advised. Have you ever felt like you were different, like you didn't belong? Kellie Kingston knows that feeling all too well. She’s not who she pretends to be, instead from the inside out, Kellie is actually Kaleb. For years, Kaleb has wanted to break free from the reins of Kellie’s lifestyle. He knows he was born in a female’s body, but with a soul of a man. What happens when skeletons are forced to be kept in dirty closets? No one should judge a person by the gender of their body, but the passions found within their heart. Will the people of Kaleb’s community ever be able to accept him for who he really is? Will Kaleb ever be free to truly love himself or will southern socialite secrets keep him hidden forever?

By Brandi Pearson Alright, first off I want to pat the author on the back. Layla has written something totally different, and way out of my normal reading with Love Thyself. I really think it takes a lot of courage to write something so different, but in a good way. When I first started this book, I was very interested in what was going on, what could happen. You name it, I was sucked in. I instantly had a connection with Kellie/Kaleb and I really felt horrible for her/him. I wanted to pull Kellie/Kaleb out of the book world and away from her/his horrible mother. Since Kellie/Kaleb can remember she/he has always wanted to be a boy. I cannot for the life of me begin to understand what it would be like to not feel as though you’re not in the right body or feel completely different because you were born the wrong sex. Kellie wants to be Kaleb. I wanted that to happen for her/him just so she/he wouldn’t have to feel the way she/he did and could actually be happy.I was really angry when Kellie/Kaleb told her/his mother and the mother’s reaction. It was beyond frustrating to read how she acted and treated Kellie/Kaleb. It really broke my heart. I was overjoyed when Kellie/Kaleb’s father was the one to help her/him. I wanted to fist bump the dad for that. I will say, this is where things get a little confusing. A lot of secrets are revealed back to back, and I’m still trying to process everything. I do feel the author went a little off track and even though it was addictive to read, at times I questioned why it was so important. It was if I was reading two different books and the author just combined two different ideas she had. Kellie/Kaleb literally had to endure so much in such a short amount of time and I honestly don’t know how she/he got through any of it.Overall the story was good and very interesting. I’m glad I did take the chance on it and if you like books with a lot of angst and drama, this is the book for you. I did learn some new and interesting facts in reading this one and you should at least give it a try.

I told myself don’t read reviews, don’t read the Blurb. Just Start the story. And that is exactly what I did and didn’t regret it at all! This book was amazingly well written. I love the opening paragraph“I was taught from an early age, Love Thyself, Be who you want to be, never judge, but when you come from a family that does nothing but judge well you’re simply screwed.”You can’t start this book with anything better than this. I fell in love with Kellie and Kaleb. Kellie is a strong person specially when facing her mother. But Kaleb isn’t weak either. He fights and fights to be free. I cried so much in this book. I felt every word. The love filled one and the hurtful ones as well. I love the unconditional love his father shows. The one thing that did bother me was that there was way too much going on. From the Father’s secret and his struggle as a child. The mother and what she did and her sick mind. The uncle who is a bad ass, the cousin, the neighbor. There was way too much happening in one day. If this would of been spaced out to maybe a few months or even a year , it would of worked out better. But over all it was a good book. Kaleb’s story was well told when it came to the struggle and to the way he knew people would react to him. The way the mother was portrayed was very honest and real. The ending was very touching.I gave it a three because it way too much happening at once and uber dramatic. I know the author worked hard on it, but the story was overwhelmed with drama. And not all of it was necessary. Also it was hard to believe some it.

Great story with great message By Carol Cassada Stevens tackles the topic of transgender with the story of Kellie/Kaleb, who is a boy trapped in a girl's body. Growing up, Kellie was forced by her mother to wear dresses, makeup, and compete in beauty pageants. As Kellie struggles with her identity and the need to transition, her father supports her decision, while her mother Cora Beth is against the idea. Kellie tries to get her mother to support, yet Cora Beth's stance against the decision hurts Kellie. As Kellie makes the decision to transition, her life is turned for a loop when secrets from Sterling and Cora Beth's past affect her.I thought Stevens did a wonderful job of writing about the topic of transgender and she did a beautiful job of capturing the pain Kellie was going through as she struggled with realizing who she is and being rejected by her mother. Sterling, I loved how supportive he was of Kellie and the bond they had. I was surprised by the revelation of his secret, yet I think adding it in made his and Kellie's bond stronger and helped with the message of the story. As for Cora Beth, she's the antagonist of the book and throughout it she voices her disapproval of Kellie's decision. There are times when I thought Cora Beth went overboard, in one scene she calls Kellie a disgrace. Whenever Cora Beth was harsh to Kellie, I wanted to reach through the pages, slap her, and tell her to stop hurting her child. In the end, Cora Beth ends up getting karma when her secret costs her the things she loves the most.Overall, I thought it was a good story. The way Stevens was able to weave a story about family secrets and capture the message of loving yourself was great.
